August Member of the Month: Dr. Mercy Elahi-Neal
Celebrating Vision, Community, and Compassion during National Eye Exam Month
The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber is proud to spotlight Dr. Mercy Elahi-Neal as our August Member of the Month in celebration of National Eye Exam Month—a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of regular vision care.
A passionate optometrist and entrepreneur, Dr. Elahi-Neal always knew she would pursue a career in healthcare. “I enjoy meeting new individuals while solving problems,” she shares, and her journey into optometry has allowed her to do exactly that—helping people see the world more clearly while improving their overall well-being.
Dr. Elahi-Neal finds it especially rewarding when first-time glasses or contact lens wearers experience the world in full focus. “I love the change in their voice while I’m testing their vision, as they realize what they can see,” she reflects.
Optometry, as Dr. Elahi-Neal explains, is more than just helping people see. “Your eyes hold secrets to your health, emotions, and overall well-being.” With each exam, she’s not only prescribing lenses but considering her patients’ health, lifestyle, and unique needs. This holistic approach to care is what makes her practice so meaningful.
As a small business owner, Dr. Elahi-Neal emphasizes the power of having a strong support system. “You are not alone and MUST have a dependable support system personally and professionally. Your ‘village’ will make you or break you!”
She stays at the forefront of industry trends through continuing education, professional publications, and a network of peers. “It’s a constant learning process,” she says, noting how much she values community and knowledge-sharing within optometry groups.
Beyond the exam room, Dr. Elahi-Neal is a proud Monroe native with deep community ties. “I love our small-town feel with big-town benefits,” she says. When not caring for patients, she enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with her husband and daughters.
Fun fact: she can fold a fitted sheet to perfection and is the first-born daughter of Pakistani immigrants, blending her southern upbringing with rich cultural heritage.
During National Eye Exam Month, Dr. Elahi-Neal reminds us that regular eye exams aren’t just about getting glasses—they’re essential for early detection of health issues and maintaining overall wellness. Whether you need a check-up, are experiencing changes in vision, or just want to prioritize your health, there’s no better time to schedule an appointment.
Thank you, Dr. Elahi-Neal, for your commitment to your patients, your profession, and your community. We’re proud to honor you as our August Member of the Month!
