    Nominees for the 34th annual Northeast Louisiana Arts Awards announced
     
    The Northeast Louisiana Arts Council is proud to announce its nominees for the 34th annual Northeast Louisiana Arts Awards on March 7. Area arts organizations nominated artists, businesses and volunteers for excellence in the arts community. The Arts Awards have four categories with one sub-category: Edmund Williamson Visual Artist of the Year, Edmund Williamson Performing Artist of the Year, Dorothy Bassett Emerging Artist Award, BART Award and Volunteer of the Year.
     
    Named for the late Edmund Williamson, the Artist of the Year was established to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of individual artists and performing ensembles to the quality of life in northeast Louisiana.
    2019 nominees in both the Visual and Performing Arts categories include:
    • Jason Byron Nelson, nominated by the Downtown Arts Alliance (visual artist)
    • Rodrecas Davis, nominated by Twin City Art Foundation/ Masur Museum (visual artist)
    • Colette Boutwell, nominated by Louisiana Delta Ballet (performing artist))
    • Joe Istre, nominated by Twin City Ballet Company (performing artist)
     
    Named for the Arts Council’s long-term president, the Dorothy Bassett Emerging Artist Award was established to acknowledge young artists who have demonstrated a desire to pursue a career in the arts. A $1,000 cash award will be presented to the recipient to afford an opportunity to further their professional training.
     2019 nominees include:
    • Krislynne Flowers, nominated by the Twin City Ballet Company
    • Katelyn Vaughan, nominated by the Downtown Arts Alliance
    • Christina Gray, nominated by the Strauss Theatre Center
    • Margaret Ann Zentner, nominated by Monroe Symphony Orchestra
     
    The Business Art (BART) Award was established to recognize the importance of corporate participation in stabilizing and expanding the arts. 2019 nominees include:
    • Marion State Bank, nominated by the Louisiana Delta Ballet
    • Flying Tiger Brewery, nominated by the Downtown Arts Alliance
    • Bennett Seymour Insurance, nominated by the Twin City Art Foundation/ Masur Museum
     
    The Volunteer of the Year Award was established to recognize individual personal involvement in the development of the cultural arts in northeast Louisiana. 2019 nominees include:
    • Amanda Roe, nominated by the Downtown Arts Alliance
    • Mike Gibbons, nominated by the Strauss Theatre Center
    • Diane Howard, nominated by the Louisiana Delta Ballet
    • Jorenda Stone, nominated by the Monroe Symphony League
    • Marsha Powell, nominated by the Twin City Ballet Company
    • Daphanie Dailey, nominated by the Princess Theatre
